In this blog, I will talk about breaking up patterns and my new morning routine.
Breaking up patterns
For the past 3 years I have been consistently waking up early (before 6 AM). The first thing I have been doing for the first 30 minutes for the past 3 years, is reading. Reading is something I tend to neglect when I plan it later in my day.
All the things I do during my morning routine or obligations, but at the same time they are recreational. I love reading, but some days it can feel like a chore. I love writing as well, but some days are just so brutal.
For the next few months, I am going to incorporate something that is really fun to do, while at the same time being meaningful to me. At the end of each month I will check in with myself and see if I still like it that much. If not, I will change it up. That way I will always have one part in my morning routine that gets me constantly fired up. Maybe that will keep the momentum of the routine going even stronger. This means my morning routine will still consist of the foundations, but now there is the possibility to vary with one component.
This will be a phase full of testing, maybe it turns out to not be beneficial at all for my productivity or focus. Time will tell. I hope to get back to you after a few months to give a review on how it went.
The New Routine – Something Really Fun
For my new routine, I will keep my basics still in there. Why? Because they are aligned with my long-term goals and are also things I have better output with in the morning.
As mentioned in the previous paragraph, I will add something new which is really fun to me. For the month of September, it will be programming. In stead of studying Jung every morning for 30 minutes, I will program for 30 minutes. If I still enjoy it as much at the end of September as I do right now, I will keep the routine the same. If not, I will change it up.
Besides programming, I will also bring back the cold shower.
04:30 (Cold) Shower: the first 5 minutes warm, then cold. Start with 1 minute cold, build to 5 minutes.
